A Tribute to Our Moms

Last week, we had our Mother's Day Tea. The children were very proud of their mothers, grandmothers and the other special women in their lives. Cameras were aplenty and there were smiles all around. We consider it a tremendous honor that these wonderful women share their children with us. Please know how much we appreciate you.

Hats Off to Dads!

We're celebrating fathers with Donuts for Dads tomorrow morning! Looking forward to spending some focused time with the special gentlemen (including grandpas) who come here with their children. We have the greatest group of parents in town!

During Chapel yesterday, we read Thank You, God, for Daddy by Amy Parker. In it, Little Lion Cub talks about all the things that his father does to take care of him and his family and to be a help to his neighbors. The children seemed to enjoy it and were very enthusiastic when we sang our D-A-D-D-Y song.

Being a father to any child is an amazing calling. So here's to the dads, grandpas, older brothers, cousins, uncles, family friends and neighbors who love and support the children in their lives. God bless you!

Teacher Appreciation

"A good teacher is like a candle: it consumes itself to light the way for others." ~ Anonymous

May 5-9 is Teacher Appreciation Week and today, specifically, is Teacher Appreciation Day. We just want to take a moment to lift up all teachers today. We are especially blessed to have an amazing team of teachers here at Fairlawn West Preschool. A love for children and a commitment to their growth & development are the things that drive our teachers. Good teachers are vital; they can literally save lives. So, today, be sure to say thank you to a teacher. Drop a note to a favorite from your childhood or do something special for your child's teacher. You'll be glad you did.

"The Teacher sought to find just the right words to express truths clearly." ~ Ecclesiastes 12:10 NLT

Prayer for Children

Today, May 1, 2014, is the National Day of Prayer. With that in mind, we offer this prayer for all children everywhere:

A Prayer for Children by Rev. Dr. Eileen Lindner

We Pray for Children...
-- Who put chocolate fingers everywhere, who like to be tickled, who stamp in puddles and ruin their new pants, who sneak popsicles before dinner, who erase holes in math workbooks, who can never find their shoes.

And We Pray for Those...
-- Who stare at photographers from behind barbed wire, who can't bound down the street in a new pair of sneakers, who never "counted potatoes," who are born in places we wouldn't be caught dead, who never go to the circus, who live in an X-rated world.

We Pray for Children...
-- Who bring us sticky kisses and fistfuls of dandelions, who sleep with the dog and bury goldfish, who hug in a hurry and forget their lunch money, who cover themselves with Band-Aids and sing off key, who squeeze toothpaste all over the sink, who slurp their soup.

And We Pray for Those...
-- Who never get dessert, who have no safe blanket to drag behind them, who watch their parents watch them die, who can't find any bread to steal, who don't have rooms to clean up, whose pictures aren't on anybody's dresser, whose monsters are real.

We Pray for Children...
-- Who spend all their allowance before Tuesday, who throw tantrums in the grocery store and pick at their food, who like ghost stories, who shove dirty clothes under the bed, and never rinse out the tub, who get visits from the tooth fairy, who don't like to be kissed in front of the carpool, who squirm in church and scream in the phone, whose tears we sometimes laugh at, whose smiles can make us cry.

Amen
